The weather over the past month has felt like a constant, blistering, unapologetic scorching heat wave that just rains down on us. Through my commute in my home city of Santa Ana, I am constantly in awe of the street fruit vendors that battle through the sun to provide an array of refreshing fruit options for weary residents. It felt beautiful to me. I wanted to capture that beauty somehow. So, I reached out to my friend, Zee, if she would be interested in photographing this concept with me. I show my mood board, and she was game and offer to collaborate by incorporating her floral skills courtesy of Angel Flowers.
If you want the best oranges in the city, this friendly man parks his truck on Sundays off Fairview & McFadden, by the 7-Eleven parking lot. Buy a bag of oranges for yourself, and buy a bag to give away.
For the fellow film nerds, all images were made with 35mm and 120 Kodak Portra 400. Cameras used were the Hasselblad 501c, Pentax 645Nii, and Nikon F100.
P.S. – Thank you uncle Pancho who graciously let me use his backyard for this session.
