Photography is how I experience and document life. When I first began photography, it was a form of comfort, a security blanket. Photography enabled me to document the world around me. It was a tool that allowed me to ask people to be vulnerable, to creatively collaborate, and to share in our humanity. Photography empowered me to go to places I wanted to explore, all while feeling safe behind the very thing that allowed me to connect with my surroundings.
As a child of immigrant parents, I straddle a line between American assimilation and the roots of my Mexican heritage. I was shy and introverted; it was a delicate journey to navigate this dichotomy and come to terms with my vulnerability. As a youth, while in the Boy Scouts, I was the Troop Historian and made photographs of our adventures. These were the first portraits I ever made and the first wild places I ever experienced. A photography class in High School was the next chapter in my journey. Photography became a sanctuary, diving deep into the basics, darkroom processing and printing, and supplemental yearbook coverage. Shoutout to Mr. Farnsworth for the guidance and encouragement.
Over the past twelve years, I have been privileged to document the lives and journeys of clients who have invited me into their lives, something I'm grateful for. Through my photographic work, I have been fortunate enough to have created friendships and working relationships that have lasted throughout my career. I hope to continue creating new lasting connections through my work.
When I am not documenting for others, I enjoy working on my own photographic and creative projects. This includes my travels alongside my wife and capturing my family, particularly my mother who is one of my greatest inspirations. I am constantly inspired by the community surrounding me. Through my creative growth, the constant inspiration of the people in my life, and my desire to document, I believe everyone has a story and story worth telling.
